How We Choose Recommendations

Our recommendations are based on local intelligence data, community patterns, and editorial curation — not paid placement. Here's what that means in practice.

LikeLocalsDo curates restaurant, activity, beach, and experience recommendations for Florida's Gulf Coast using local intelligence data, behavioral patterns, and editorial review. Recommendations are not pay-to-play. Businesses cannot pay to appear in guides. Inclusion is based on quality and local relevance.

How We Choose What to Include

Each city guide on LikeLocalsDo is organized into 8 categories: restaurants, bars, beaches, kids activities, events, outdoors, shopping, and where to stay. Within each category, we curate up to 10 listings ranked by local relevance — not by paid placement, affiliate relationships, or how much traffic they generate.

Our curation combines three inputs:

📍
Local Intelligence Data
Structured data on each venue: best time to visit, peak crowd hours, parking difficulty, insider tips, who the spot is ideal for.
📊
Community Patterns
Behavioral signals from how visitors interact with guides — saves, planner adds, click patterns — reveal which venues locals and repeat visitors return to.
✏️
Editorial Curation
Human editorial review ensures guide quality, removes closed or outdated venues, and surfaces lesser-known spots that locals actually use.
🔍
Enrichment Verification
Each listing goes through a structured enrichment pass: hours, contact info, social profiles, website, and address are verified before the business profile goes live.

What "Local Intelligence" Means

Local intelligence is our term for the structured, practical data we collect on each venue. Unlike generic travel reviews, local intelligence answers the questions that actually matter when you're planning a visit.

Data Point What It Tells You
Best time to visit Day of week and time of day when the experience is best — before crowds arrive or during the "golden hour" window.
Avoid when Honest warnings: "avoid Sunday brunch crowds," "skip during spring break week," "not ideal for rainy days."
Locals order this What the regulars actually order — not just the most popular menu item but what's considered the signature dish by people who've been there 10 times.
Reservation difficulty Scaled rating of how hard it is to get a table: walk-in friendly vs. book 3 weeks out.
Parking difficulty How hard is it to park? Is there a lot, street parking, or do you need to plan ahead?
Crowd level Typical busy-ness so you can decide whether that adds to or detracts from your visit.
Ideal audience Who is this spot actually for? Families, couples, solo visitors, groups — we say it plainly.
Insider note The single most useful thing a local would tell you before your first visit.

Independence Policy

Recommendations are not pay-to-play. Businesses cannot pay to appear in guides, move up in rankings, or receive a local intelligence profile. Inclusion is based on quality and local relevance only.

LikeLocalsDo does include affiliate links to third-party booking services (OpenTable, Viator, Booking.com) for some listings. If you make a reservation or purchase through these links, we may receive a referral commission. This does not affect which businesses we recommend or their ranking. Affiliate relationships are disclosed in our Terms & Conditions.

Update Cadence

City guides and local intelligence data are regularly refreshed. Business profiles are re-enriched when contact information or operational details change. Closed venues are removed. We prioritize updates for our core Gulf Coast corridor cities — the 29 cities from Clearwater to Venice that represent our primary coverage area.

If you spot an error — wrong hours, a closed venue, or an outdated address — email us at contact@likelocalsdo.com and we'll fix it.

Data Sources

Local intelligence data is sourced and synthesized from multiple inputs: publicly available venue information, structured enrichment via business profiles, community interaction patterns, and editorial review. We use AI-assisted generation to produce initial content, which is then validated against real venue data and editorial standards. Content is designed to be accurate and practically useful — we acknowledge that business details (hours, menus, prices) change frequently, and we recommend verifying critical details directly with the venue before visiting.
